Royal Wedding Fever

Blog|Lisa Maehata

Royal Wedding fever is upon us and we could not be more excited, because at Grace Cathedral, we love celebrating love!

We feel a special bond because as an Episcopal church, Grace is part of the Anglican Communion, just like St. George’s Chapel where Prince Harry and Meghan are tying the knot; in other words, we’re members of the same faith community as Anglicans in the UK. Also, we share gothic architecture with St. George’s and we have a fervent love of cake. But to top that cake, what a thrilling surprise it was to hear that our Presiding Bishop, Michael Curry, would be preaching at Harry and Meghan’s wedding ceremony! We are immeasurably proud of him and will be tuning in bright and early to hear his sermon. Bishop Curry is a brilliant and gifted speaker; he preached at Grace Cathedral in August for the Eco Justice Seminar and people were enthralled. We hope he will be back at Grace for the Global Climate Action Summit Evensong here at Grace in September and when we see him, we will be sure to ask him how the wedding was. It could be the closest we will ever get to royalty!

Keep an ear out for our carillon bells at 12 pm on Saturday. Our 44 bells are from a bell foundry in Croydon, England and will ring out in jubilant celebration of the Royal Wedding. The songs are a surprise, but you’ll hear some of your favorites and it will surely bring a smile to everyone’s face.

Speaking of surprises – we’ve got one more for you today. We’ve created our first-ever “Weddings at Grace Cathedral” video. Here is a look at some spectacular moments with our amazing wedding couples in our welcoming, inclusive and beautiful space. Enjoy!
