Called the “evangelical rabbi of liberal religion,” John Buehrens has been cited as a “scholar, organizer, but above all pastor,” for his work leading Unitarian Universalist urban churches in Tennessee, Texas, and New York City. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Divinity, John Buehrens was President of the Unitarian Universalist Association from 1993 to 2001, leading a denomination of over 1000 congregations. Author of five books, he is an activist for human rights, affordable housing and interfaith cooperation. His wife, the Rev. Gwen Langdoc Buehrens, a retired priest in the Episcopal Church, was ordained to the diaconate at Grace Cathedral in 1972, three days after they were married.

The Very Rev. Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young is the ninth dean of Grace Cathedral. Malcolm is an Episcopal priest, an author who has published books on spirituality and the environment and writes about religion for Huffington Post, and founder of the Ventana School in Los Altos, CA.
