The cathedral’s seniors are a diverse, stimulating community of seasoned people who are aging with grace. We gather to learn, grow, stay healthy and enjoy each other’s company — and everyone is welcome at our gatherings.
Once or twice a year, we enjoy a retreat in beautiful Healdsburg. In addition to beautiful scenery, our group will enjoy a program that include arts and crafts, social hour, Holy Eucharist, Compline, meditation, music, walks on the labyrinth and pastoral appointments. This year’s theme is “Small Miracles.”
All are welcome; RSVP is required. Transportation to and from the cathedral is included in the attendance costs. Payment plans, in addition limited scholarships, are available.
Community Days occur on the fourth Thursday of each month (unless affected by a holiday) from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Enjoy a full breakfast from 9:30 to 10 am, followed by Bible study and a topical presentation. At 12:10 pm, we gather for Holy Eucharist in the Chapel of Grace and then return to the Dining Room for a catered luncheon. We conclude our day with the sharing of senior grocery care bags.
Most senior events take place in the Chapter House Dining Room. Trained medical staff are available at these events to assist with basic health assessment and referrals.
Next Community Day: Thursday, May 24
As part of Senior Community Day on Thursday, May 24 Jose Hernandez, our Associate for Liturgy, will present a program that includes sacred and inspirational music including Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday” from Black, Brown and Beige Suite, Adam Guettel’s “How Glory Goes” from the musical Floyd Collins, Joaquin Turina’s “Saeta” and G. F. Handel’s “Ombra mai fu” from the opera Serse. Don’t miss hearing this talented singer!
The Rev. Canon Nina Pickerrell is honored to support the senior program. She would love to hear from you with any questions, suggestions or to reserve a spot on the next retreat. Please find her contact information below.
