Dinner with Grace is a collaborative ministry of Grace Cathedral, Episcopal Community Services, and the formerly homeless of the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. Dinner with Grace - through the preparation and sharing of a healthy meal - builds community, engenders empathy, ends isolation and combats loneliness for volunteers and those we serve. The mission of Dinner with Grace is simple yet transformative: bringing diverse people together to discover their common humanity, feeding hungry bodies and souls.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in November of 2013, the Chapter House Kitchen at the cathedral is being renovated. We will be cooking at First AME Zion Church, at 2159 Golden Gate Avenue, near Masonic Avenue. Nearby public transit routes include the 5, 31 and 43 bus lines.

Dinner with Grace was started at Grace Cathedral in 2007 by a group of congregants and the Rev. Will Scott. Volunteers gathered once a month to cook a filling, healthy meal and serve it with style to residents of the Mentone Hotel in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco. Since then, the Core Team has expanded the volunteer base, added a second location (the Coast, now the Crosby Hotel), and built a solid relationship with Episcopal Community Services of San Francisco, which operates the Mentone and several other SRO (Single Residence Occupancy) hotels in the city. The goals of the program remain the same today:
• Serve a home-cooked meal
• Use fresh ingredients
• Cook food that we all want to eat
• Enjoy a meal together
• Create a safe place for discussion and community to form
Dinner with Grace is built on the dedication and cooperation of numerous volunteers. We are led by a Core Team, a diverse group of people dedicated to helping ensure Dinner with Grace fulfills our mission of practicing hospitality, expanding community engagement, and feeding hungry people. Core Team members regularly assist with meal preparation, volunteer coordination, and work together to discern ways of further developing the impact of our program.
The core team meets monthly at Grace Cathedral formally but countless hours are spent by each individual and groups to make this ministry work and grow. All are welcome to attend Core Team meetings. If you have ideas and are able to offer your time, talent and skills we invite you to consider being part of the Dinner with Grace Core Team.
