About the Program:

Fresh vs. frozen, wild vs. farm-raised, organic vs. locally grown, omega-3, trans fats, health claims on food labels, portion sizes, genetically modified foods, the pet food recall, the meat recall. No wonder most of us are thoroughly confused about what to eat to stay healthy. Eric Schlosser, author of Fast Food Nation, said of Dr. Nestle’s Food Politics: "Food politics underlie all politics in the United States. There is no industry more important to Americans, more fundamentally linked to our well-being and the future well-being of our children. Nestle reveals how corporate control of the nation's food system limits our choices and threatens our health. If you eat, you should read this book" … and come to this informative Forum!

Marion Nestle is Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health (the department she chaired from 1988-2003) and Professor of Sociology at New York University. Her degrees include a Ph.D. in molecular biology and an M.P.H. in public health nutrition, both from the University of California, Berkeley. Her latest book, What to Eat, was named as one of Amazon.Com’s top ten books of 2006, and a “Must Read” by Eating Well magazine. Her new book Pet Food Politics: Chihuahua in the Coal Mine, an examination of the recent pet food recall, comes out in September.
