The Very Rev. Alan Jones

Larry Harvey is the director of Burning Man, an annual arts festival dedicated to radical self-expression and radical self-reliance. Born in 1948, Larry grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Portland, Oregon. In the late 1970's he moved to San Francisco, and soon discovered the city's thriving underground art scene. In 1986 he founded Burning Man on a San Francisco beach, and has guided its progress ever since. In 1990, Burning Man moved to Nevada's Black Rock Desert. It has become a large-scale civic entity--its population numbering in the thousands--and a major venue for site-specific interactive public art. In addition to his administrative duties as the Project's director, he also scripts and manages Burning Man's annual art theme.
