About the Program:
Unlike
the diverse stories of the Judeo-Christian Bible, the Qur'an was
given once from Allah to the prophet Muhammad, and is thus considered
to be the pure and direct Word of God, unmingled with human commentary.
Yet the Muslim world interprets the text in widely different ways,
from the intellectual focus of Sufism to the political agenda
of the Taliban. In this last Forum in the "Spirit & Word:
Sacred Texts for Spiritual Formation" series, the Very Rev.
Alan Jones discusses the Qur'an with Shah Nazar Seyed Ali Kianfar,
co-founder of the International Association of Sufism, and Arthur
K. Scott, Professor of Islamic Studies at the University of San
Francisco.
