Peter denies being a disciple of Christ (S. Luke XXII.57:
"... I know him not"). As they warm themselves by the fire,
a servant-girl in the crowd identifies Peter as a disciple, but he
denies it. The crowing rooster reminds Peter of his betrayal, as Jesus had
foretold.
