Gathering in
Grace Cathedral

A Song of Creation:
an interfaith Earth Day celebration
at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco

Listen to Mickey Hart's segment

All faiths include an element of reverence for the planet. On Earth Day 2001 at Grace Cathedral, thousands enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime interfaith liturgy and live webcast, featuring representatives from a diverse range religious paths, including Native American, Islamic, Buddhist, Jewish, Pagan, and Christian, and a special performance by Mickey Hart, former drummer of the Grateful Dead. Now this deeply moving musical ceremony is available on-demand as a streaming audio file from GraceCathedral.org.

Experience The Beam, an electronic monochord, taken out of retirement by Mickey Hart, as droning instruments from around the world, including didjeridoo, tambura and bagpies, blend with the chants of Tibetan monks. Renowned vocalists Rhiannon, and SoVoSo's David Worm, join the Cathedral's Choir of Men and Boys, and the raised tones of the audience in a unique improvisational piece commissioned solely for Earth Day at Grace Cathedral.
