"Contribute to the needs of the saints and extend hospitality to
strangers." (Romans 12:13)
As a point of pilgrimage for many travelers, and as a community open to
those seeking a welcoming environment, Grace Cathedral opens its doors
to all. There are many opportunities to make the visitor welcome and to
provide newcomers with spiritual nourishment. Grace Cathedral is called
to be a house of prayer for all people.

The Newcomer Ministry welcomes visitors and newcomers and encourages
membership in our resident congregation. Information about the Cathedral
community is available at the Visitor Center in the Cathedral, and those
interested in joining the community at Grace are invited to fill out
welcome cards which will begin the process of membership.

Ushers welcome visitors and congregation members, pass out service
leaflets, take up the collection, guide people during communion, and
clean up after the service. They must be helpful and friendly, with the
strength to stand for several hours. Most ushers sign up for a monthly
rotation, and all are asked to be on hand for major services such as
Christmas and Easter.

These outgoing and dedicated individuals are the Cathedral's front line
in our ministry of hospitality, welcoming visitors and offering
assistance and information. At Coffee Hour the greeters staff the
newcomers' table and kiosk, providing information and opportunities to
become more incorporated into the cathedral community. Volunteers
usually serve on a monthly rotation at each of the main Sunday services,
and are available for special events.

The docents of the Guild offer information and hospitality and conduct
formal tours on a daily schedule to the many visitors to Grace
Cathedral. Guides undergo extensive training and usually serve on a
weekly rotation as well as for specially scheduled group tours. A strong
voice and strong legs are a must.

The Information desk at the back of the Nave is generally staffed daily.
These volunteers must be friendly and outgoing, and willing to field a
wide variety of questions from the hundreds of visitors who enter the
Cathedral daily. Volunteers sign up for 3-hour periods, and serve
weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. An orientation session is provided.
