The Interfaith Labyrinth

The Interfaith Labyrinth (William Turnbull and Associates, 1995), is adjacent to the cathedral stairway, and flanks Diocesan House. This outdoor labyrinth is open for public use at all hours. A replica of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth, slightly reduced in size, this is the first permanent labyrinth of its kind outside Europe. The labyrinth is paved with white and grey terrazzo to mark the winding path to the center. Orientated in approximately the same position as the labyrinth at Chartres (which faces its midsummer sunrise), it was so positioned here, however, to best reveal its entrance path to visitors. Radial joints mark the four points of the compass. Surrounding the labyrinth is the Interfaith Meditation Garden planted with flowering plum trees and jasmine.
