The Choir

Beyond the central sanctuary, the cathedral choir contains stalls for the clergy and cathedral choir of men and boys. The Aeolian Skinner organ (1934, 1972 additions) is one of the finest early Classic American-style organs, and has over 7300 pipes. The 1998 console is by the historic Schoenstein Co. of San Francisco. The High Altar originally stood in the apse (red dossal curtain). The eagle lectern was carved by Gutzon Borglum, creator of Mt. Rushmore
