The Chapel of Grace The Chapel of Grace was the first completed unit of Grace Cathedral. Consecrated at the end of 1930, it served as the cathedral during 1931-1932. The fixed limestone medieval French Altar dates from about 1430. Above, the three oak panels of the finely-carved late medieval triptych altarpiece were made in Brabant about 1520 for the Benedictine abbey at Hambye in northwest France. In front is a modern table altar, and at right a 12th century credence table. Turn to the chapel entrance screen (Samuel Yellin, 1934). At right, above, are parts of the Gospel windows series by Charles Connick (1930) some of his finest work. Closer are a medieval lectern, the chapel organ (1930) and early 16th century stall and kneeler desk. |
