Children & Youth
Grace Cathedral is a house of prayer for all people, young and old. Grace Cathedral honors its community of children and the sanctuary in which they do their own spiritual work, engaging their own questions about who we are, why we are here, what freedom is for... and so much more.
Seating for Families with Children
Reserved seating for families with children is provided during the 11 a.m. Eucharist. As you enter the Cathedral with your children, please find a section for families in the first five pews at the front of the nave, just to the left of the main nave aisle. If your children are participating in our Sunday School programming, you can then accompany them to our Sunday School rooms downstairs and return to the family section. We'll bring the children back upstairs to join you for Communion.
Childcare
Infants and toddlers up to age five may be cared for in our nursery during Sunday morning services from 8a.m. to 1 p.m.. Each child must be registered in the nursery by an accompanying adult. Parents or guardians are required to remain on the cathedral close at all times; pagers are available. Parents are urged to sit in our family seating section so they may be quickly located in case of an emergency. If you wish to have your nursery-age child with you during Communion, please come to the nursery at the Offertory to collect him or her personally.
Godly Play
Children do not come to us as empty vessels…they are having their own experience of God! If you want to meet someone who knows God, gaze into the eyes of a newborn…if only she could tell you what she knows! Through Godly Play, children discover the art of religious language and share their experiences of God in Christian community.
Play is children’s work.
The Godly Play experience reflects the Liturgy of the Word. After Godly Play, the community of children moves to the Nave, to join with their families and the wider cathedral community for the Liturgy of the Table, or Holy Communion. Godly Play is for children ages four through nine. There is no fee for Sunday morning programs.

GraceQuest
Honoring the spiritual lives of children is a life-long practice. In the middle-school years, wondering about human existential questions and real-life dilemmas can take on new layers of meaning. Rooted in the process of theological reflection, GraceQuest makes connections between the questions of today and the stories and traditions of our people, in the sacred space of a Christian community of young people.
