The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men & Boys Tour

The choir celebrated its 100-year anniversary at Grace Cathedral in the summer of 2013. As part of their 100-year celebration, the choir conducted a musical tour in Spain in June 2013 that broadened the choir's experience and shared the uplifting voices and organ music with a diverse, global audience. Buen Viaje Concert

This bon voyage concert on Sunday, June 9, 2013 featured the program the choir will perform during their upcoming tour. Music included was Victoria's Missa Ascendens Christus, a not-often-heard piece by the great Spanish master, which the choir will perform in Avila, the composer's hometown. The choir also performed arrangements of American hymns and spirituals, arranged by great American composer, Aaron Copland and renowned composer and pedagogue Alice Parker.

The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys is about more than just music on Sunday mornings. The program starts in third grade. By the time boys graduate from eighth grade, they are not only accomplished vocalists, but they also have developed a deep appreciation for the arts, and understand the discipline that it takes to succeed in the greater world. At the same time, the choir recognizes that "kids will be kids." Choir activities are often filled with spontaneous hilarity, creative problem solving, and yes, the occasional afternoon adventure.
In preparation for their tour to Spain, the Choir of Men and Boys embarked upon a mini-tour of San Francisco on one sunny Saturday morning. Their excursion led them from the top of Nob Hill to the beaches of Crissy Field.
