Spiritual support is the way we express the love of Christ to one another as we walk together through life’s ups and downs. While spiritual support takes many forms as we share joy and accomplishments, grief and losses, we are called to care for one another especially during times of transition, loss and change.
Spiritual support at Grace Cathedral happens through many ministries offered by both clergy and lay members of the community. These ministries include hospital visitation; taking communion to, and visiting, the homebound; cooking and taking meals to congregants in times of crisis; prayer and anointing; the Rite of Reconciliation; meeting with the clergy and trained lay leaders by appointment - who can listen and guide you toward resources to assist you in finding the help you need.
Request Prayer for yourself, for some situation, or for another.
Talk With Clergy about a scheduling a visit, about the sacraments of anointing, communion, reconciliation, or pastoral counseling.
Every Sunday during communion at the 11 a.m. service, the Laying on of Hands for Healing and anointing are offered in the Chapel of Grace and/or The Chapel of the Nativity.
When there is a need for pastoral support, it is important that someone call and inform the church so that we may respond appropriately. We respect your privacy and work hard to maintain the confidentiality of your particular concern to the level you desire.*
If you would like prayer for yourself, for some situation, or for another, certain members have committed to pray daily for those in need. They receive requests for prayer through the church office, through the prayer station in the cathedral at the Spanish crucifix, and through our online prayer request page.
If you are unable to get to church and would like a visit, please call the cathedral receptionist at 415-749-6300 to schedule a visit.
If you would like to talk to a priest about a scheduling a visit, about the sacraments of anointing, communion, or confession - what we call in the Episcopal Church The Rite of Reconciliation, or would like to meet for pastoral counseling, you may contact cathedral clergy directly by clicking here for the directory.
If you have a pastoral emergency and need to contact a member of the clergy after business hours, please call 415-412-5210. Your call will ring on the cell phone of the clergy person on-call.
A Prayer for Healing
"O God, the source of all health: So fill my heart with faith in your love, that with calm expectancy I may make room for your power to possess me, and gracefully accept your healing; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen (BCP, p.461)."
*NOTE: We would like to know when congregants are in the hospital. Because of Healthcare Privacy Laws, Grace Cathedral will not necessarily be notified when a member is in the hospital. Please let the us know when you or another congregant is in the hospital and would like a visit by calling the cathedral receptionist at 415-749-6300.
