The Very Rev. Dr. Malcolm Clemens Young officially began his tenure as the ninth dean of Grace Cathedral on August 3, 2015. He will be installed as dean on September 27, 2015 in a joyous day of celebration to which all are invited.
Malcolm leads the cathedral in fulfilling its goal to be a model cathedral for the 21st century and its mission to share the love of God through worship, education, service and the arts. He oversees the spiritual life of the cathedral and ministers to the cathedral's beloved congregation and wider community. The dean runs the cathedral in collaboration with the Chapter (the senior management team) and the Grace Cathedral Board of Trustees.
Malcolm joined Grace Cathedral from Christ Church, Los Altos, CA, where he was the Rector and also the Founder of the Ventana School, an Episcopal day school for students from preschool to 5th grade.
Malcolm has been an ordained priest for 20 years and has a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Divinity and Doctorate of Theology from Harvard University. He is the author of The Spiritual Journal of Henry David Thoreau and The Invisible Hand in Wilderness: Economics, Ecology, and God, and is a regular contributor on religion to the Huffington Post.
Malcolm is married to Heidi Ho, and they have two teenage children, Micah and Melia.
