Congregation Council Corner

Blog|Lisa S. Wong

It is an effort to communicate more directly and frequently about the Congregation Council, elevate Council-related issues and events of interest to the congregation and Grace community, and promote an inclusive and engaged congregation.

My name is Lisa S. Wong, and I am the President and Co-Lead of the Congregation Council. As President and Co-Lead of the Council, it is my privilege to serve and represent the congregation.

The Council exists to represent the cathedral ministry through supporting programs that benefit the congregation. We also identify congregation needs and share congregation concerns with the clergy. Council work focuses on stewardship, outreach, hospitality, leadership development, and spiritual growth for individuals, groups, and the congregation.

Congregation Council works to engage you in the many ministries, programs, and efforts of Grace Cathedral. Together with my Council colleagues and the Office of the Congregation, I’m excited to launch this monthly blog post series to promote activities of interest and introduce you to the diverse voices of Grace’s Council members.

I also want to share a way to engage with Grace that has been especially meaningful to me: serving as a hospitality volunteer. As a member of the Grace community, it has been my pleasure to assist with coffee hour, celebrate special ordinations and retirements of clergy and staff, and holiday events.

Participating as a hospitality volunteer takes an interest in helping out. You might be preparing the pancake batter for the annual Sunday pancake brunch pre-Ash Wednesday, greeting guests at the coffee table, or helping to set up chairs before a special post-service event. You won’t be alone, and the opportunities are varied, fun, and communal.

Grace now has the need and opportunity for more hospitality volunteers as we welcome folks back to in-person activities. Please join us! If you would like to meet more of your fellow congregants and join us in providing hospitality to the congregation and Grace community by sharing in conversation, serving refreshments, and creating an environment where people can feel welcome and have a chance to socialize, please contact Pete Young, Associate for Congregational Life.
