Family Retreat at The Bishop's Ranch

Memorial Day WEekend: May 23-25, 2015

Field games are for all ages,
from sack race to tug-o-war.
Families, children, youth and friends retreat to this beautiful place every year on Memorial Day weekend, for community and fun.

This is Family Time. You choose the activities which work for you and your family. Some of us go to be early, or get up early (or both). Some want to stay inside and rest, some want to run and play outdoors. It's all up to you and your family.

The only things we all share together are meals, and Sunday morning worship.

Email the Rev. Canon Beth Grundy, Canon for Pastoral Care and Formation, or call 415-749-6369.

Join a group activity,
or find your own fun.You might make a new friend.

You might engineer with Legos (even our youngest friends get to play). You might be a good sport in the field games, or go off on your own to try the scavenger hunt.

You might go for a hike.Everyone gets a round of applause at
the Sunday evening talent/variety show.

Or swim in the brand new pool!

You might teach us a song or make s'mores at the campfire, or make up a skit for the talent show.

There wll be time for all of these things, and you might have some of your own ideas.

The Chapel is always open.
At this retreat, everyone has a job. Adults help set up social hour, serve as pool monitors, and referees for field games. Youth help with the Eucharist and prepare the campfire. Babies are cute. Toddlers ring the bells to let us know when Morning and Evening Prayers are being said in the chapel.

Sometimes, even though the bells have not called them, people come into this chapel to be quiet. Maybe they will talk to God. All are welcome.

Sunday at 11 a.m., we all gather here in the church for Eucharist and then our group photo. While we're waiting for meals, we look for ourselves in the pictures from years past.

Sometimes we meet God in nature.
Sometimes our friends come along.

During the family retreat, you and your family are free to roam. The Bishop's Ranch is 343 acres in Sonoma County's beautiful Russian River Valley. This is wine country. The accommodations are simple, but comfortable, and the food is so delicious and healthy, you may be inspired to purchase a copy of their cookbook while you're there.

The Bishop's Ranch is easy to find.

The Bishop's Ranch is near Healdsburg, 74 miles north of Grace Cathedral. That's just over an hour's drive on a normal day, and at least two hours on Memorial Day Weekend. There is, alas, no public transit option.

We check-in before lunch on Saturday, and check out after breakfast on Monday.

One modest retreat fee includes comfortable accommodations, meals & all activities for all three days.
