Join the congregation, led by the Choir of Men and Boys, as we mark the beginning of the new liturgical year with scripture, poetry and song.
This Advent Procession with lessons and carols in its present form dates from the early part of the 20th century. It also incorporates much older liturgical forms that express the Church’s preparation for the coming of Christ that we celebrate at Christmas, as well as the ever-present coming of Christ’s kingdom into a world in need of redemption. A living flame is a potent symbol of the victory of light over darkness: as the procession moves around the cathedral and we hear ancient prophecies of Christ’s coming, we move, both literally and spiritually, from darkness into light.
After the service, join us in the Chapter House Dining Room for the Advent Tea, a festive potluck of sweet and savory treats. Bring finger-food and sweets to share to the Chapter House Dining Room any time before the Advent Procession at 3 p.m.
Please note whether your treats include any allergens.
