In this interview by Canon Rick Johnson,
Roger Joslin, author of
Running the Spiritual Path: A Guide to Breathing, Meditating, and
Exploring the Prayerful Dimension of the Sport, shares his discovery
of how a regular run can be turned into a lively and enriching encounter
with the Divine.
Roger D. Joslin is the author of Running the Spiritual Path, and a veteran of three marathons and thousands of miles of solitary running on trails and back roads throughout the United States. Mr. Joslin's book emerged from a running journal he maintained over the course of the last decade. Many years of meditation practice, punctuated with the nurturing solitude of periodic visits to numerous retreat centers and monasteries, led the author, quite naturally, to combine his love for running with his spiritual search. The author is currently enrolled in the Master of Divinity program at the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest, with aspirations to enter the priesthood. While Mr. Joslin's schedule is demanding, he is actively engaged in leading workshops and clinics designed to acquaint participants with the link between running, prayer, and meditation. He is both an experienced teacher and an engaging speaker and is eager to take on the task of awakening a wider audience to the value of running as a spiritual practice.
