Altar fully closed, center panel The central figure, which holds the place of the Christ figure in the 12th century Isenheim altarpiece, is that of an anonymous widow, representing all the women who have lost husbands to AIDS. She wears the traditional mourning dress, and is surrounded by the children of the village of Hamburg.
